Yesterday, Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws officially filed with the NV Secretary of State and made news statewide. We are excited to be moving forward and having rational discussions about why it makes sense to change our current marijuana laws. As you can see on our video section, some people just don’t get that we are working to make our communities safer by regulating marijuana. With your help, we will make 2010 the year that ushers in Sensible Marijuana Laws.
The Nevada Appeal, out of Carson City, just posted an article about tomorrow's big announcement. They described our plans to submit an initiative to tax and regulate marijuana to the Secretary of State and even included a quote conveying one of our primary messages:
This Wednesday, January 6, NSML campaign manager Dave Schwartz will hold a press conference on the steps of the State Capitol in Carson City to unveil the language of our 2012 ballot initiative to create a regulated marijuana market in Nevada. Schwartz issued the following statement in an advisory prior to the press conference:
The Associated Press is out with an article today about the mini-wave of marijuana policy reform sweeping through parts of the country. With the headline, "High expectations? States weigh marijuana reform," the article mentions the launch of our campaign briefly at the end. We expect many more articles like this over the coming years, with our campaign being featured more prominently.
In our last post, we wrote about a Washington State legislator who had introduced a bill to tax and regulate marijuana. Now, the incoming mayor of Seattle, Mike McGinn, says marijuana should be regulated “like alcohol…not treated as a criminal activity.” I wonder if there are any mayors in Nevada that would like to follow the lead? Our door is open whenever you are ready.
