Last week, a Washington State legislator, with five co-sponsors, introduced a bill to end marijuana prohibition and to tax and regulate sales. It is becoming clear that other states are looking at all options and opening real conversations about taxing and regulating.

This morning, on the Heidi Harris Show, NSML campaign manager Dave Schwartz talked about marijuana being safer than alcohol and about our plans for an initiative to tax and regulate marijuana in Nevada. It is astounding that there is so much wrong information out there about marijuana, but every opportunity that comes along to discuss and dispel these myths is a step forward for NSML.

A message from Dave Schwartz, NSML campaign manager:

This weekend I had the opportunity to meet with some great supporters in Virginia City and I want to thank them for their hospitality. As I have traveled around the state, I have learned how passionate our citizens are about changing our marijuana laws.  Some have been involved since the 1960’s, some have volunteered on previous initiatives here in NV, and others are new volunteers and supporters. It is invigorating to know so many Nevadans are excited and committed to make Nevada a state that has sensible marijuana laws.

Yesterday we announced to the media the creation of Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws and boy did we get a great response. Media from all over the state covered the announcement.  The Las Vegas Review Journal, The Nevada Appeal, Reno Gazette Journal, NBC, CBS, and Fox News all reported on or wrote about our plan to be on the 2012 ballot.  In addition, the Associated Press picked it up and the campaign received coverage in several states outside of Nevada!

A message from Dave Schwartz, NSML campaign manager:

Today was a great day for Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws and I am sure many more great days are in front of us. Just a few minutes ago we announced to the media that MPP-NV officially filed with the secretary of state both a political action committee and a ballot advocacy group, Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws. This is the first step toward gathering signatures in 2010 to qualify to be on the ballot for the November 2012 elections.
